KUALA LUMPUR/BARCELONA/SUVA/DALLAS, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) --The Chinese Lantern Festival was celebrated around the world over the weekend.
On Sunday, dazzling fireworks illuminated the night sky in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as Thean Hou Temple held a lavish Lantern Festival gala, drawing more than 3,000 people.
Thean Hou Temple is an important place for Malaysian-Chinese to embrace Chinese culture. The quaint temple lit up some 6,000 red lanterns every day during Chinese New Year.
In Spain, the festival was embraced in the north of Barcelona over the weekend, as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
People gathered in Santa Coloma de Gramenet to enjoy shows featuring Chinese culture.
A Lantern Festival gala was held in Suva, capital of Fiji on Sunday, with the participation of Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian, and about 200 people from the local Chinese community.
The celebrations featured traditional Fijian dances, fashion shows, and delicious Chinese food.
On Saturday, the day before the Lantern Festival, various events were held in Dallas and its suburban city Southlake in Texas, the United States.
Malls in Dallas put up Chinese New Year posters of rabbits and were decorated with red lanterns. In Southlake, a lantern workshop and evening lantern walk was held.
The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations.
